The thesis "Evaluation of urban environments, a method to measure experience" (LTH 2009) developed a scientifically validated method to gain knowledge about the public's experience of places and neighborhoods as basis for urban design in a time- and cost-effective manner.
The doctoral thesis use the Circumplex as a model for measurement of people’s inner emotional response to a specific location.
The results of emotional experiences of a location are presented in radial graphs which gives an immediate image of the performance and quality of the location measured. The reasons for the emotional experiences can be positive or negative factors in the physical environment or activities at the place
